WHO IS HE?

The ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humankind
“He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
-1 Jn 2:2
The only way to God and salvation

The embodiment of love
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
–1 Jn 4:8
A friend to sinners

–Mk 2:17

An advocate for the poor

–Lk 18:22
A supporter of women
“Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet,
but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair….I tell you,
her many sins have been forgiven – for she loved much.”
–Lk 7:44-47
An ally to outsiders

Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt.
I am the Lord your God.”

must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
–Mk 10:43-45
The short and sweet version of how Jesus became so important:

God created the world. Yay! Trees! Humankind! CATS! Everything was wonderful. But then, Satan, a rogue and defiant angel of God, fell from heaven and convinced us to sin. Boo.

God, forever perfect, could not accept this about his creation. As a result, we sacrificed and sacrificed ( m a n y animal lives were lost) to pay our debts to God, and still we were led astray. We failed God time and again. And again. And again. Until finally God was like enough, Bro, and sent his SON (enter Jesus, stage left) down to us to lead us back to God and stand in as the grandest sacrifice ever - grand enough to cover all people for all time.

Some of us embraced Jesus during his life, but many of us did not. Yeah, we tortured and murdered him. But! In his death, Jesus (who is much more productive than all those animals we’d been slaughtering), washed away all the world’s sins with his blood. This made us clean and perfect in God’s eyes. Jesus’s sacrifice of his life was enough to pull all humankind out of spiritual debt, enabling us to forever have a relationship with God!

Then, since he's a WINNER, Jesus rose three days after his death to reign with God in the kingdom of heaven forever, giving all who believe in him the gift of the Holy Spirit, who dwells within believers and gives guidance. All we need to do in order to be with God (now and upon our own exit of this life) is accept Jesus as our personal savior from our sins.

...so let's do that.
